Pandemic demand regularization of service
Kohima: A number of nurses employed by the Nagaland government during the COVID-19 pandemic began an indefinite sit-in near the state civil secretariat junction here on Wednesday, demanding regularisation of their service.
Under the auspices of ‘Department Recruited Aggravated Nurse (DRAN) 2021’, the nurses held up placards that read ‘Don’t use us and throw away’, covid assigned nurses call for their rights and thus thank you to the covid warriors.
Lijamo Odyuo, President of DRAN 2021, in a release said that the concerned authority should respect the state cabinet memo dated July 5, 2020, which claimed that 50 percent (129) of the staff nurses posts are based on seniority. Appointment will be made and other 50% through direct recruitment.
While 129 nurses were given regular appointments, an advertisement dated 16 July 2020 invited local Naga nurses for interview. 129 applicants, all DRAN members, were then shortlisted and appeared for interviews. Later he was recruited on the basis of merit in various health centers of the state. But their services have not been regularised, he said.
Instead, the authorities issued a notification earlier this month transferring 129 posts to the Nagaland Public Service Competition for a competitive examination.
Odio said DRAN had submitted a memorandum to the government on October 20 demanding regularization of the services of those who had cleared the interview and said that if it was not fulfilled and the members If the pending salaries are not released for four months, they will resort to protest.
He added that the Joint Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare met the DRAN leaders on Wednesday but the meeting was inconclusive.
