KOHIMA: In a historic move, Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) on Wednesday facilitated a meeting between Isak-Muivah-led National Socialist Council of Nagalim and Naga National Political Groups NSCN-IM NNPGs.
A joint statement by NSCN collective leadership VS Atem and NNPGs working committee coordinator Alezo Venuh said that in the spirit of connection, the two parties met in the presence of FNR to push for genuine reconciliation among Nagas.
The two groups negotiating with the Center decided that the June 13, 2009 “Memorandum of Understanding” (CoR) signed by Isak Chishi Soo, SS Khipling and S Sangya would be honored verbatim.
Terming the outcome of the meeting as a historic step, Nagaland Chief Minister Nephew Reo praised the FNR and the two negotiating groups for resolving the outstanding issues.
Therefore, we renew our commitment to “work together in the spirit of love” and desist from all forms of armed violence and from indulging in verbal violence through print and social media between Naga political groups and the general public.
Both groups decided to remain committed to peace and respect and resolve outstanding issues between them to chart a way forward.
Aware of the differences, the two negotiating groups said they would protect themselves from fissures that further divide them.
“We are committed to finding ways to resolve differences through cooperation to work on the basis of the CoR in future meetings. In this regard, we believe that cooperation in nation building, which is socially and politically Conceptually and intellectually solid, it has begun.
The negotiators of the Naga peace talks also urged individuals and organizations to shun all rhetoric, assumptions and agendas that are divisive.
He said that such culture should end immediately. He added that churches, educational institutions, civil society organizations and individuals of conscience should accept the responsibility of leadership with honesty.

Both the NSCN-IM and the NNPGs strongly affirmed the offer of unity by “God in Christ”. “This is the Naga that has been renewed and restored with God and each other,” he added.
