Addressing the inaugural meeting of the All Naga College Students Union (ANCSU) in Dimapur, Nagaland, Royte praised the early political consciousness of the Nagas and said that the separate tribal group had its political movement during the British rule. Notably, the Government of India is negotiating with both the NSCN-IM and the NNPGs separately.
While the talks with the NSCN-IM have been going on since 1997, the NNPGs and the Government of India have been in talks since 2017.
The Government of India signed a “Framework Agreement” with NSCN-IM on 3 August 2015 and a “Consensus Position” with NNPGs on 17 November 2017.
Meanwhile, a separate flag and constitution remain the bone of contention between the NSCN-IM and the Government of India (GoI) over reaching a solution to the Naga political issue.
