KOHIMA: Ahead of Independence Day, suspected militants belonging to NSCN-KYA and ULFA-I launched almost simultaneous attacks on Assam Rifles troops in Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
In Nagaland, militants attacked troops of the Assam Rifles in the Dan Pingsha area of Nagaland’s Nauklik district along the India-Myanmar border.
After this, heavy firing started in the area between the Assam Rifles troops and the militants.
Top sources told North East Now that the militants “fired about 15 rounds” from across the border.
However, no one was reported injured in the firing and our own post at Den Pangsha in Nagaland’s Nauklik district along the India-Myanmar border retaliated, sources added.
“So far, no casualty has been reported in the incident,” Deputy Commissioner of Nagaland’s Nauklik district – Hayazu Meru said.
In Arunachal Pradesh, troops of the Assam Rifles came under attack by militants at Pangsu Pass along the Indo-Myanmar border in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh.
The rebels opened fire on the Assam Rifles patrol team.
“An incident of firing by militant groups from across the Indo-Myanmar border on Assam Rifles troops took place early in the morning in the general area of Tirap and Changlang districts,” Tezpur-based defense spokesman Lt. Col. AS Walia said.
He said that troops of Assam Rifles are increasing patrolling activities in view of strict vigilance for Independence Day.
“A junior commissioned officer sustained an injury in the hand,” the spokesperson added.
