Nagaland govt silence on RIIN issue, AIMTN strongly condemns
Kohima: The Association of Indigenous Minority Tribes of Nagaland (AIMTN), representing the Kuki, Kachari, Garo, and Mikir (Karbi) communities, has expressed concern over the lack of response from the Nagaland government regarding their representation on the formation of the District Level Coordination Committee for Indigenous Inhabitants Certificate (IIC) and Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) under the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN).
Despite submitting a representation to the Chief Secretary on September 24, and issuing a subsequent press release on September 29, the AIMTN has received no official reply from the government. The association has condemned this silence, describing it as “step-motherly treatment” towards the four indigenous minority tribes.
In response, the AIMTN has announced that the Kuki, Kachari, Garo, and Mikir tribes will not participate in any District Level Coordination Committee for IIC/PRC until the government provides an acceptable response to their concerns.
The AIMTN urged the government to take their grievances seriously and address the matter at the earliest.
