Nagaland: ENPO has threatened to boycott assembly elections in border Nagaland.

GUWAHATI: The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) has said that the people of Eastern Nagaland will boycott the Assembly elections in February if the Center fails to create a “Frontier Nagaland” state.

This statement came a few days before the meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) leaders will meet Amit Shah on December 3.

ENPO leaders will discuss their demand for a separate “frontier Nagaland” state with Union Home Minister Amit Shah during their meeting on December 3.
ENPO is present in six out of total 16 districts of Nagaland. The group has threatened to boycott next year’s assembly elections in Nagaland if their demand for a separate “frontier Nagaland” state is not met.
“If the Center fails to respond to our appeal, we will ask all our 20 elected representatives (MLAs) to resign,” said an ENPO spokesperson.

Moreover, ENPO has decided not to participate in the famous Hornbill Festival in Nagaland.
The 10-day Hornbill Festival in Nagaland will begin from December 1.

Nagaland Assembly has a total of 60 seats of the total 60 seats in the Nagaland Assembly, 20 are in the six districts where ENPO has a presence.

Those six districts are Kefir, Longling, Mon, Nauklik, Shamtoor and Teonsang.

Notably, the ruling NDPP has 15 of these seats, the ally BJP has four, and one MLA is independent.
