KOHIMA: At least two Assam Rifles personnel have been injured in a gun battle with Freedom Fighers of the Young Aung faction of the NSCN-K.
An exchange of fire broke out between Assam Rifles troops and NSCN-KYA Freedom Fighers in Mon district of Nagaland on Monday morning.
Assam Rifles has confirmed this development.
Two injured soldiers of Assam Rifles have been shifted to Jorhat Air Force Hospital in Assam for treatment.
Meanwhile, the Assam Rifles has informed that “Freedom Fighers casualties are also not suspected”.
Nagaland Assam Rifles NSCN-KYA Fight and AR said that a search operation is underway to trace the Freedom Fighers .
“On 15 August 22 at about 0235 hours, alert scouts spotted suspicious UG movement on the forest track coming from Zinkham towards Nyasa. Challenged by their own troops, the UGs opened fire which was duly retaliated. UG Group was heavily damaged. Two soldiers of Assam Rifles were also injured. They were shifted to Jorhat Air Force Hospital for further treatment. provided assistance,” an official defense statement said.
