Dimapur: The Naga Students Federation (NSF) has condemned the central government’s “hardline” in extending the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 for another six months in large parts of Nagaland under the guise of the law. The problem of order
The federation, in a release issued by its president Kegwayhun Tep and general secretary Siipuni Ng Philo, on Saturday condemned the central government’s “persistent attempt” to paint the state as a land of lawlessness and chaos.
The central government on September 30 declared nine districts and 16 police stations in four other districts of Nagaland as “disturbed areas” from October 1, 2022.
It said that the world is a witness to the fact that Nagaland is a beautiful state inhabited by peace-loving citizens in contrast to the illegal way it has been built.
“The history of atrocities committed by the armed forces against the Naga people under IFSPA calls for condemnation from all right-thinking citizens of the world,” NSF said.
The Federation also reiterated its earlier stand that the Naga Students Federation are not amenable to this brutal act which has empowered Indian military and paramilitary war machines with unlimited powers and impunity to arrest, torture, kill and dehumanise them. He has given authority to commit everything.
Accordingly, AFSPA is unconstitutional as it only encourages abuses and grave human rights violations by armed forces acting on behalf of the state.
The federation appealed to the central government to take an objective assessment of the situation and not act on biased reports from its various agencies. He also urged the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to take appropriate steps to ensure that the controversial law is repealed from the entire Naga homeland once and for all.
The federation affirmed that it will continue its efforts to ensure that AFSPA is repealed or removed from the entire Naga homeland. Towards achieving this goal, he appealed to the Naga people to non-cooperate with the Indian armed forces or paramilitary forces until the “bad law” is enforced.
