Naga Political Issue: The Chief Minister of Assam met the core committee of the Nagaland government. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met members of the Nagaland government’s core committee for Naga political talks. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also the convener of the Northeastern Democratic Alliance (NEDA), called on the core committee headed by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rev. The meeting, which lasted till late Friday night, was attended by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak and 16 other MLAs who are members of the committee.
Former Chief Minister of Nagaland and Chairman of UDA TR Zeliang was also present in the meeting.
Earlier, the NSCN-IM and the Nagaland government’s core committee, in a meeting, had considered hiring Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the ongoing Indo-Naga political talks.
The Nagaland government’s core committee on Naga political issues had nominated Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to facilitate the ongoing peace talks between the NSCN-IM and the Indian government.
NSCN-IM did not object to the proposal to include Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in the talks as “it has been heard by both stakeholders and the Center”.
Recently, NSCN-IM decided in its “Emergency National Assembly” to stand firm on its demand for separate flags and constitution: “There is no solution without flags and constitution.”
