Naga civil societies said Centre must honour Framework Accord

Nagaland: A joint statement issued by Naga Hoho, Naga Mothers Association, Naga Students Federation and Naga People’s Movement for Human Rights said that the Government of India should honor its words in the Framework Agreement and accordingly Indo-Naga The political impasse must be resolved.
It said that a political dialogue was ongoing after the ceasefire agreement in 1997 and a framework in 2015 by the Government of India and representatives of the Naga people as a basis for working on a political agreement to resolve the armed conflict. The agreement was signed.
“Though two shameful decades have almost passed, the political will and due process and guarantees on the part of the Government of India remain in serious doubt,” the statement said.
It added: “On our part, the Nagas have agreed and are committed to a sustainable comprehensive new relationship of peaceful coexistence of the two entities – Nagas and Indians.”
Stating that the Government of India should stop its militancy and military operations, the four organizations said that the Indo-Naga political conflict cannot be resolved militarily and should be resolved politically as at least Three Indian army generals and others have confessed.
It said that former UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali, whenever he assumed office, had officially acknowledged the “unspeakable suffering of the Nagas” by observing the “human rights situation in Nagaland”.
“Leaving us no choice but to defend our political, social, religious and economic rights, we resorted to fighting and resisting the occupying military forces of India and Burma. This war has since ended with two cease-fires. continues between,” the statement added.
It states that the Nagas are peace-loving and humanitarian people who highly respect peaceful co-existence. “We defend our honor because we respect and uphold the dignity of all people as shown by our great hospitality,” it said.
It also appealed to the international community to intervene humanitarianly in human rights violations in “Naga country”, and to recognize the legitimate political, social, economic and religious rights of the Nagas as per the UN Indigenous People’s Rights. It is stated in the announcement.
