Naga aggression on Assam soil, Tension accelerates in Jorhat

Mariani: Tension remains high along the Assam-Nagaland border following reports of Naga miscreants encroaching on Assamese territory.

Locals reported heavy encroachment by Naga miscreants in the Dissoi Valley forest area along the Assam-Nagaland border in Mariani. Reports suggest that the alleged Nagas miscreant crossed the Thiruhills forest area and destroyed a large part of the forest by felling trees.
This latest incident of alleged land grabbing by Nagas soon after the formation of the new government in Nagaland has created tension among those living near the Assam-Nagaland border.
Naga offenders have reportedly encroached on many areas on Assam territory, cutting down valuable trees on Assam revenue land adjacent to Section 18 of the Assam Tea Corporation’s Naginajan tea estate in Mariani.
While the Naga miscreants are wreaking havoc on the Assamese land, the villagers on the Assamese side are angry at the pathetic behavior of the Assamese administration in not taking the matter seriously.
