Sonowal said, “I urged the youth to take responsibility for preserving the pristine natural beauty and rich biodiversity of Digboi city.
“Schools and colleges are temples of knowledge. Their contribution in shaping the character of students is important. Youth should focus on capacity building and equip themselves with skills to contribute to building a better India. .

Digboi is known as the ‘Oil City of Assam’ where the first oil well in Asia was drilled. The city attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world every year.
The town is located at a distance of 500 km from Guwahati and 55 km from Tinsukia.
The town derives its name from the phrase “Dig-boy-dig”. The town’s history begins in 1867 when a small group of men from the Assam Railway and Trading Company found their elephants’ legs soaked in black mud, which smelled somewhat like oil. In 1889, the British started a small oil installation. In 1901, India (and Asia) got its first refinery at Digboi. Now, it holds the distinction of being the oldest oil producing field in India.
