Guwahati: Union AYUSH minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday said the ongoing G-20 summit is a “golden opportunity to showcase Assamese traditions, culture, monuments and national parks to the world” for the state government and its people.
Addressing the media at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Sonowal said: “In the past, hosting such events was limited to only a few cities. However, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has ensured that all regions of the country – From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, from Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh – has the opportunity to host high-profile events like the G20 summit.
Asked about the importance of the meeting, Sonowal said policies will be formulated and mechanisms developed as G-20 countries look to mobilize the “billions and trillions” needed to tackle environmental threats on a war footing. .

“To raise finance to address such challenges, we need to coordinate efforts between the private and public sectors,” he said.
“With public-private partnership, appropriate policy, and a proper roadmap, we will definitely find a way to meet our sustainable development goals, agenda, and objectives of the Paris Agreement,” added the Union Minister.

During the summit, the Union Minister said that the delegates will discuss and deliberate on how to introduce and incorporate sustainable methods to solve the problems faced by humanity.
Terming the first meeting of the Sustainable Finance Working Group in Guwahati as “very important”, Sonowal said it would help scale up sustainable finance to meet the G20 goals.
“The delegates from the G20 and other leading international organizations present at the meeting will give their advice on how to address the threats to humanity at Thursday’s meeting,” asserted Sonowal.

Sonowal said the objective of the G20 summit is to tackle the grave threats facing mankind such as environmental degradation and create employment for the people.
Sonowal also said that the ongoing summit, chaired by India, is “the most important of the 21st century”.
More than 100 delegates, including 95 foreign officials, representatives of G20 countries, host countries, and international organizations have gathered in Guwahati to discuss the influential global grouping.
The three main agenda items of the Guwahati edition of the Sustainable Finance Working Group are mobilizing timely and adequate resources for climate finance, enabling finance for the Sustainable Development Goals, and increasing the capacity of ecosystems to finance sustainable development.
