GUWAHATI: Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Vincent H Pala has reportedly warned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will not be allowed to visit the assembly in the state. Bringing it to campaign for elections can prove a dangerous mistake.
Pala highlighted that 78% of the state’s population is Christian and they have lost faith in the BJP after the treatment of Christians in party-ruled states like Assam, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka.
He said that BJP should think twice before bringing Modi and Shah in the state.
He added that when the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister came to Shillong, instead of discussing politics, they only inaugurated schemes and various government projects.
The state Congress chief said that Modi and Shah would have no influence in the state as BJP’s star campaigners and alleged that the BJP would not dare to take Modi to areas where they have Don’t crowd or it will fire back at them.
Pala also said that in the 2018 assembly elections, the prime minister did not come to the Khasi Jaintia Hills but only visited the Garo Hills “because he can bring sheep from Assam”.
The Congress has proposed 40 star campaigners who will campaign for the upcoming elections, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor.
