Guwahati: A total of 57 state government employees of the 2013, 2015 and 2016 batches have been arrested and dismissed for “cash for jobs”, while three others have been sanctioned, the Assam government said on Tuesday.
Responding to a question by Congress MLA Bharat Chandra Narah, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that 60 people who had passed the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) examinations in these three years were brought under investigation.
He added that 57 of these officers were arrested in the “APSC cash for job scam” and dismissed from service.
In addition, three other officials agreed to become approvers and are currently under suspension, said Sarma, who also heads the personnel department.
He also said that the Justice BK Sharma Commission report on the scam has not yet been accepted by the government and has been referred to a committee for review.
The APSC was involved in a cash-for-work scam that was being investigated by the Assam Police, which had arrested around 70 people since 2016, including its former chairman Rakesh Kumar Pal and 57 civil services officials.
