Guwahati: More than 3,000 schools in Assam lack basic facilities like toilets for boys, state education minister Ranuj Pegu told the state assembly on Thursday.
Minister Pegu said that 3117 schools do not have adequate toilet facility for boys, 2747 are at primary level and 370 are at secondary level.
On the other hand, more than 1600 educational institutions lack such facilities for girl students.
Additionally, more than 1100 schools do not have drinking water.
According to Minister Pigo, more than 1000 schools do not have electricity connection.
He also informed that 2900 schools are run by only one teacher.
Meanwhile, around 4800 educational institutions are running in one room.
The Assam Education Minister shared this information while replying to an un-starred question by Congress MLA Debbarta Saikia.
