More than 30 houses and shops were gutted in a fire in Arunachal Pradesh’s Yingkiong.
Itanagar: More than 30 houses and commercial establishments were gutted and property worth crores of rupees was destroyed in a devastating fire that broke out on Thursday afternoon at the headquarters of Upper Siang District, Young Kyung.
However, no one was injured in the incident and the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The fire broke out at about 2 a.m. and was contained by 6 p.m., said Upper Siang Deputy Superintendent of Police Opir Paron.
“Around 33 houses, including shops, have been completely burnt to ashes in the fire and the number may increase till tomorrow,” he said, adding that property worth about Rs 4 to 5 crore was involved in the incident. Is destroyed
Taram Libang , secretary of the Yingkiong Market Welfare Committee (YMWC), said several shops had been severely damaged.
He said that the fire tenders could not be reached on time but thanks to the joint efforts of GREF, BRO and Army personnel and the people, the fire was brought under control.
