Manipur: Suspected Kuki militants set fire to three houses spreading violence and a sawmill at Apun Lok under the jurisdiction of Kangchup police station in Imphal West district on Friday around 11:30 pm.
The sawmill that was burnt belongs to a Mangsatabam Inaobi from Loitang Khunou who is currently residing in Kangchup Chingkhong.
Meanwhile, suspected Kuki militants opened fire at Nongthonband village under the jurisdiction of Sekmai police station in Imphal West district around 12:30 am on Saturday.
The villagers retaliated and fired back to save themselves. However, no casualty has been reported till the time of writing this report.
Suspected Kuki militants and unidentified miscreants also continued firing at Kangchup Hill in K Songlung village under the jurisdiction of Kangchup Police Station.
The exchange of fire started around 2:22 pm on Friday and continued till 5 am on Saturday, police sources said.
SP S Ibomcha of Imphal West visited the area on Saturday morning but there was no casualty.
In another incident, eight vehicles of the Assam Rifles, which had arrived for duty at the Sports University at Koutruk in Imphal West district, were denied entry by a large number of women protesters at 5.30 am on Saturday.
More than 2,000 women who were spending the night at the intersection of Phedinga and Kharkhol stopped vehicles from entering the university.
According to women protesters, the registration numbers of AR vehicles were smeared with mud.
Relief for victims of violence
Meanwhile, Salai Apunba Nupi Lamjing Lup (SANULAL) on Saturday delivered relief items including medicines to the affected victims and volunteers protecting the villages at the relief camps.
A team of the association visited the Fying Freedom Hill Camp where they distributed the items.
SANULAL also condemned narco-terrorism and brutality against civilians and said it was against international humanitarian law.
Meanwhile, Kanglei Sintha Semkat Sakat Lup, Singjamei Bazar also provided relief materials and financial assistance to Thongju Constituency Relief Camp opened at Ideal Girls College Accompt in Imphal East district on Saturday.
The association also urged the concerned authorities to devise ways to resolve the existing communal conflicts.
Organization for a Better Society (OBS), Western Palace Compound, Imphal East has provided financial assistance to six communal conflict patients, who are undergoing treatment at Kripadashini Advanced Hospital, Palace Compound, Imphal East.
Among the injured who received financial assistance are Kongkham Manao, 37, from Serou Awang Leikai, Saikhom James, 24, from Khangabok, Moirangthem Premananda Yairipkok, 24, Sinam Ranjan, 26, from Angtha Sinam. Leikai, 41-year-old Salam Gyanendra Singh of Moirang Khunou and 34-year-old Elialong Senapati.
The club said that they will provide financial assistance to the injured persons admitted to the Advanced Hospital and Kripadashini Advanced Hospital under the jurisdiction of the club.
Blood donation
Reaching out to the victims, members of the CCIAN Forum, 1996-98 batch organized a blood donation camp at Shija Hospital, Langol on Saturday to help the victims of the recent violence in the state.
While participating in the camp, the general secretary of the forum, Angomcha Chingkhei, said that the camp is being organized to help the displaced people due to ethnic conflict.
He also appealed to the people of the state to extend all possible help and support to the victims.
Chingkhei also urged the Indian and Manipur government to find a solution to close the embassy as soon as possible.
The Relief Committee JNIMS, Purampat on Saturday appreciated the generous donations of the philanthropists of the state and requested all to continue such assistance and support to the victims of the current crisis.
A release issued by the committee said that the relief committee JNIMS has spent more than Rs 3 lakh in treating 238 injured in the crisis from May 3 to June 2.
It said that many philanthropists and generous people have donated a total of around Rs 1.4 lakh till date.
He added that the committee requested all to continue such assistance and support to the victims of the current crisis in the state.
