Models of Sikkim CM Tamang burned by SDF protestors

In a recent Supreme Court judgment blaming Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang for ‘scheming Nepalis with immigration tag’. Sikkim Democratic Front Party workers burnt models of the chief minister after a protest rally led by SDF president Pawan Chamling.

Earlier on February 2, the Sikkim Democratic Front Party had said that Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang was responsible for the “immigrant problem” in the state and should resign as Chief Minister.

SDF Party Chief Spokesperson MK Subba said, “The chief minister is solely responsible for this whole issue due to his neutral attitude and hence he should resign from the post.

Elaborating on the issue, Subba shared that ‘the highest terms of its merger should now be reviewed or revised as the merger of Sikkim was done at a time when China was aggressively expanding its territory and At that time Sikkim chose to become India and was acceded to India with all the conditions under the Article 37F after the 35th amendment so now seeing that they are calling our community as immigrants, therefore the center should revise or review the condition of integration.

“Remember Sikkim acceded to India with certain conditions of integration and Sikkim should never have signed the instrument of accession,” he added.
Elaborating on this, MK Subba said, “Now, let’s come to the review part. Revision comes under Article 137, but it is very difficult because once the judgment is delivered by the Supreme Court Chances of revision are low.

Blaming the SKM supremo and the current chief minister, Subba added, “The CM is just buying time. If he had the capacity, why didn’t he do it before the decision came.”
Saba further emphasized that the SDF had earlier prepared an affidavit which was to be submitted to the Supreme Court. He said, “SKM trashed our affidavit, if the SKM government had read the affidavit and submitted it, this would not have happened.”
In the course of the statement, the Subba presented the various Sikkim-India merger agreements, highlighting Article 371f.

He said that we have given our country to the Union of India. Sikkim is a sensitive state, and Delhi is only 2000 km from Nathula. We became a state under Article 2 of the Indian Constitution and the small ‘f’ of Article 371 also gives us special provisions, but this particular tag of foreigners to the Nepalese community in Sikkim threatens our identity.
“SKM government is responsible for the mess, our Chief Minister PS Tamang was already aware of the decision. The Chief Minister spoke the same lines given in the decision in a meeting. Why didn’t he act despite knowing? What? Saba asked.

After questioning and leveling allegations, the SDF demanded the immediate resignation of the Chief Minister, “Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang should leave his post,” the Subba concluded.
