MNF should quit NDA dared by Mizoram BJP unit

Aizawl: BJP’s Mizoram unit has dared the ruling MNF in the state to leave the Saffron Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The challenge from the Mizoram BJP comes days after Chief Minister Zoramthanga said the MNF “is not afraid of the BJP-led NDA”.
Reacting to the Mizoram chief minister’s statement, state BJP leader K Laldinthara said that though the MNF is threatening to quit the NDA, it “doesn’t have the courage to do so”.

It is pertinent to mention here that Zoramthanga – Mizoram Chief Minister and President of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF), an ally of the BJP, on July 24 joined the Saffron Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) criticized.
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga said the MNF was “not afraid” of the BJP or its alliance – the NDA.

He also said that the MNF does not subscribe to many policies of the BJP-led NDA, terming them as ‘unacceptable’.
The Mizoram Chief Minister made this strongly worded statement while addressing the MNF workers at the party office in Aizawl.

Mizoram CM Zoramthanga said, “We (MNF) are part of the BJP-led NDA, but I want to make it clear that we are not afraid of the NDA and we are not afraid of the alliance.” Adhere to all policies.”
He added: “MNF is in alliance with BJP to bring development to Mizoram. But we are not BJP’s men.
The Mizoram Chief Minister further said that the MNF objects to the policies introduced by the BJP-led NDA which are seen as harmful to the people of the state.

He said that despite being an ally in the BJP-led NDA, the MNF has strongly objected to the proposed implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
However, speaking to mediapersons in Aizawl later, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga said the Mizo National Front (MNF) – the ruling party in the northeastern state of Mizoram and an ally of the BJP – has yet to sever ties with him. No decision has been made. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Saffron Party.
“The party (MNF) has not considered it (quitting the BJP-led NDA). As of now, we are members of the NDA,” said Mizoram CM Zoramthanga.

The Mizoram chief minister also made it clear that the MNF’s relationship with the BJP-led NDA was “problematic”.
