Imphal: A group of 31 MLAs from Manipur unanimously decided to demand Union Home Minister Amit Shah to reach a final resolution that would bring lasting peace in the state.
The MLAs proposed to the Union Home Minister to replace the 9th Assam Rifles, 22nd Assam Rifles and 37th Assam Rifles with other central security forces that are more inclined to promote the unity of the state.
They added that there are concerns about the role of certain units of the Assam Rifles, which currently pose a threat to unity within the state.
The representation to the Union Home Minister also stated that there should be a comprehensive inquiry into the public display of firearms and ammunition during the peace march held on July 5, 2023 in Churachandpur.
This raises important questions about the source as well as their continued availability of the weapons and ammunition that contribute to the violence, and MLAs have sought to address the issue and replenish these illegal arms. expressed their concern on the need to stop.
The MLAs urged the Union Home Minister to take strong and effective action against armed insurgents/cross-border armed insurgent groups operating in the state to restore peace and normalcy.
The MLAs also reiterated their commitment to initiate decisive action against armed groups that have violated established ground rules of engagement. It is inconceivable that any conflict could continue for such a long period of time without the support of such armed factions.
The MLAs also affirmed that violence in peripheral areas must be stopped. Central security forces should adopt a more proactive approach to ensure lasting peace in the region, which has failed for the past two months.
Once all violence and aggression in these areas ends, we can work towards a peaceful solution through extensive consultation with all stakeholders involved.
The MLAs also stressed that security measures such as increased highway patrolling along NH2 must be enhanced to facilitate safe transportation of goods for the people of the state. Border fencing along the Manipur section of the Indo-Myanmar border should be expedited.
