Amid the evacuation of Meiteis from Mizoram following the warning issued by the surrendered militant group PAMRA (Peace Accord MNF Returnees’ Association), the Central Committee of All Assam Manipur Students Union (AAMSU) has directed the Mizos living in the Meitei areas of Barak valley to vacate the area as soon as possible.
Reacting to the recent development of the expulsion of Meiteis, AAMSU said through a press note, “Deeply saddened to learn how Mizoram (both government and elite groups) have been involved in fomenting violence since the beginning when MZP issued a threatening notice on April 30 to Meiteis living in Mizoram, even declared as terrorists before the war in Manipur in 2023. May, 2023”.
Criticizing the Kuki militants wreaking havoc in Manipur, AAMSU added, “The recovery of weapons and other war material in Mizoram by the security forces was aimed at the Kuki militants wreaking havoc in Manipur as well as making inflammatory speeches against Meitei in the name of solidarity”.
Directing the Mizos living in the Barak valley to vacate the area as soon as possible for their own safety, AAMSU in its press note added, “Since most of the Meiteis living in Mizoram belong to Assam, Mizoram’s callous behavior has already angered the Metis of Assam.
Therefore, for their own safety, we advise the Mizos living in the Meitei areas of Wadi Barak to vacate the area as soon as possible.
At this critical juncture of the Manipur agitation, we stand in solidarity with our Meitei relatives in Manipur who have been attacked by war-obsessed Koki-Zo tribals.
Matti in Assam will provide all possible and necessary help to our relatives.
