Mizoram to shut schools for two days due to rains.

The Mizoram government will keep schools closed for two days due to continuous rains in the state for the past few days.

A notification issued by the state school education department on Sunday said that all schools from primary to higher secondary level in all parts of the state would remain closed on Monday and Tuesday for the safety of students.
The notification said that the decision was taken on the basis of a proposal by the state disaster department to remain cautious amid heavy rains.

The weather forecast shows that the state is likely to receive torrential rains in the next two days, he said.

Meanwhile, sources said that landslides have occurred due to heavy rains in many parts of Mizoram, including the state capital Aizawl .
It said several gardens along the Khawthlangtuipui River in some low-lying areas in the town of Thenzawl in the Serchhip district, about 90 km from Aizawl, and in the Lunglei district of southern Mizoram, have been submerged.

Sources said that the Talong river in Sairing village, about 21 km from Aizawl, has also overflowed due to heavy rains and some orchards have been inundated.
