Bairabi Sairang Rail Project
GUWAHATI: The Bairabi-Sairang New Line Railway Project to connect the northeastern state of Mizoram with the rest of the country is one such project that is likely to be completed soon.
“Once completed, this project will usher in a new era in terms of communication and trade in the northeastern region of the country, particularly Mizoram,” an NFR statement said.
The Bairabi-Sairang project aims to build 51.38 km of additional railway track in Northeast India.
The Bairabi-Sairang New Line Railway Project consists of 55 major bridges that require about 42,000 metric tons of steel to be fabricated, transported and erected, the statement added.
“A record 35,000 MT of steel has been produced in the last 14 months and around 30,000 MT has been delivered to various job sites. Transportation of fabricated girders to bridge sites through various bridge sites is a very difficult and challenging task. that with round-the-clock deployment of trailers and heavy machinery to assist in sharp curves of narrow mountain roads and pull/push on steep gradients. of these trailers”, the statement added.
The statement added, “Erecting steel girders is a critical activity of the project. Despite cold nights and remote areas, work is being continued 24×7 to expedite progress.
“Although there are many challenges in the completion of this project such as very short working season due to very heavy and prolonged monsoons, extremely harsh and mountainous terrain through deep forests, poor accessibility, non-availability of construction materials and skills in Mizoram. Mand Mazdoor etc., is making all efforts to fulfill its commitment to start the North East Frontier Railway project at the earliest.
Work is going on at all project sites even in night shift”, read the NFR statement.Its completion will give a much needed boost to the tourism and socio-economic development of the state and the region.
“Once operational, this project will be instrumental in connecting Mizoram with the rail network. The people of the region will have long-distance access across the country and the necessary amenities to Mizoram to meet the needs of the people. Uninterrupted supply will be possible.
