Aizawl:  Security powers hold onto heroin, unfamiliar cigarettes worth crores In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Mizoram police along with security forces on Saturday seized more than Rs 3.4 crore worth of heroin and foreign cigarettes in separate operations at various places in Mizoram.

A special branch of the Crime Investigation Department under the state police seized 222 grams of heroin on the outskirts of Sateek village in Aizawl district on Saturday, police said.
The banned, valued at Rs 1.11 crore in the international market, was concealed in 17 soap cases, police said.

Police said two peddlers, identified as Lalhruaitluanga (25) and Vanlalruata (27), both from Lunglei town in southern Mizoram, have been arrested for possession of contraband.

In another operation, the Azul Battalion of the Assam Rifles on Saturday also seized foreign cigarettes worth Rs 2.34 crore near the village of Khuangphah in the Champhai district bordering Myanmar, security forces said in a statement.
The statement said the exported foreign cigarettes included 156 cases of ESSE cigarettes (500 packets in each case), 270 packs of Valent cigarettes and 63 packs of Farstar cigarettes.

He said the seized contraband had been handed over to the state police for further legal action.
