The MZP president took a threatening stand against the association members in the meeting and said, “While you are living peacefully in Mizoram, we find it difficult to turn a blind eye to our brothers who are suffering in Manipur. “If you don’t take initiative to improve the situation, the worst can happen to you.”
“If you don’t want to face what the people of Manipur are facing, then take immediate action to solve this problem,” he added.
The meeting was attended by AMMA President Wahengbam Gopeshore and six other members.
Speaking to Media, MZP president Lalnunmawia Pautu said, “We have suffered and we have been patient for too long. So we request them to take action if they want to stay in Mizoram.” They should approach the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister to start a peace process and call Chief Minister Biren Singh to stop these actions.
“This is not just a threat, it is a call to action. We will meet him again and discuss the progress. He even met the governor and we want him to ensure that That the steps they are taking are productive,” he said.
Sharing the outcome of the meeting, AMMA Vice President Ranbir Aramban said, “We were asked to take some action. We have already done it but AMMA is not a big association, there are about 700. There are over 800 members living in different districts of Mizoram and most of us are government employees so we have our limits. As government employees we cannot condemn the government.
He said that the association is mostly concerned with congratulating members who have achieved success and providing relief to the sick in emergency situations and AMMA has met the Home Commissioner and Superintendent of Police.
“What people see on social media, Instagram and WhatsApp is not from Manipur. My simple request to the people of Mizoram is not to be one sided. Because internet is banned in Manipur, news from outside the state. are coming,” he said.
“Meiteis and Mizos have been living together peacefully in Mizoram for centuries and till date there is no problem. Seeing this, some people outside Mizoram are trying to persuade the Mizo people and convince them through false posts and statuses. are trying to hurt their sentiments,” he added.
Arambam told Media that the Meitei community is in fear after the statement issued by the MZP came to light.
“From the statement, everyone can understand that there is no need to comment. If we don’t take any action, it can be taken as a threat. It clearly shows what the intention is but the point is That we are not a big association. We are all servants of the government. We will do what we can. We had a meeting last night too and made some plans. We have a plan for the Chief Minister of Manipur Prepared memorandum.
“Some people have been living in panic for the last 20-30 days after MZP’s first statement about not going out. There were many who fled to Imphal but they came back again. Everyone is now in panic, some of Because of this statement, the tickets are ready.
Aramban has lived in Mizoram for over 25 years and is well versed with the local language and community.
The AMMA vice-president also commented on the threats made by the All Assam Manipuri Youth Association (AAMYA), saying, “One thing I want to make clear is that this is a one-man-type association and it is not a big one. Common people do not think twice before making a statement about what the people of Mizoram will think and what will be the effect.
We had already requested them not to take any step, saying it would hurt the sentiments of both the communities. They even burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister but they are only trying to inflame communal feelings, so we requested them but they did not listen to any reason.
On Wednesday, the All Assam Manipuri Youth Association issued a statement warning the MNF-led state government, “AAMYA appeals to the ruling Mizo National Front to withdraw within three days. 14/ 06/2023, his support for a separate administration for Kuki-zo people in Manipur or else AAMYA will be bound to initiate some serious steps very soon which will force the entire Mizoram to seriously study its topography Like never before.
In its memorandum to the President of India, AMMA wrote, “There are more than 34 ethnic communities in Manipur. They have been living together peacefully for centuries. However, in the recent past, Manipuri society has witnessed ethnic riots and other things.” experienced which affect the peaceful environment of coexistence.
Therefore, various policy measures need to be taken by the government to restore harmony and peace to live together as brothers and sisters as before. No community should be allowed to indulge in any act which hurts the sentiments of other communities.
