Aizawl: Acting on a specific tip-off, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department officials recovered 263.4 grams of heroin worth Rs 20 crore. 1.31 crore in Champhai district near the Myanmar border on Monday, the Assam Rifles said in a statement.
The statement said that during a joint operation in Mualkawi area on the Champhai-Zokhawthar road, two persons were arrested for possession of prohibited goods.
It said 21 cases of banned soap were concealed.
He added that both the accused and the seized consignment were handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department for further legal action on the same day.
An Assam Rifles official also said that the seized heroin was believed to have been smuggled from Myanmar.
