Mizoram police personnel dismissed for shooting two his fellows
Aizawl: A 56-year-old policeman in Mizoram, who shot dead two of his fellow armed personnel, has been dismissed from his job, a senior police officer said on Tuesday.
Mizoram Inspector General of Police (Headquarters) John Neihlaia said the accused Bimal Kanti Chakma, a Havildar in the second battalion of the Mizoram Armed Police (MAP), has been booked under Section 91 (1) (d) of the Mizoram Police Act. He said Chakma shot dead two of his associates in Buarchep area of Kolasib district on the Mizoram-Assam border, where border clashes with the neighboring state took place in 2021.
The victims have been identified as J Lalrohlua (51) and Indira Kumar Rai (53), both of whom were also Havildars in the same battalion of the Mizoram Police, he said.
Lalrohlua, who was shot in the head, died on the spot, Rai succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to the Warringate Hospital, about 10 km from where the shot was fired, they said.
Rai was shot in the left chest.
“This incident, which was very rare in the state, has shocked the police department,” Neihlaia said.
He said both the victims and the accused were on duty at their barracks, which is located about 400 meters from the main border post, when the incident took place at 6:15 pm on Sunday.
A senior police officer said that Chakma told the police that his colleagues often reported him to be drunk and before the heinous incident, he questioned the two victims as to why they had reported it to the post commander. used to give, said a senior police officer.

He said that an AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing 13 live rounds was seized from the accused and 15 empty cartridges and one projectile fired from the rifle were also recovered from the spot seized.
A criminal case under Section 302 of the IPC was registered against Chakma, who was sent to judicial custody at 1:30 am on Monday, he said.
According to Neihlaia, the state police will pay an ex-gratia of Rs. 1 lakh each to the next of kin of the victims from the Police Welfare Fund.
He said that both Mizoram Chief Minister Zormathanga and Home Minister Lalchamliana have also agreed to the proposal to provide compassionate placement to the dependents of each of the two victims under the state police department.
