Mizoram: Heroin worth over Rs 28 crore seized

AIZAWL: The Mizoram police seized 5.6 kg of heroin worth over Rs 28 crore from four different locations along the Myanmar border during the intervening 24 hours between Wednesday and Thursday.

He said that six people, including a woman from Myanmar, were arrested for possession of prohibited goods.
Champhai police recovered more than 5.4 kg of heroin from a vehicle near Tuipoi village, about 20 km from Champhai city, on Wednesday night, Mizoram Police said.

A 22-year-old woman and her male accomplice, both from Zokhawthar, the first border village of Myanmar on the Mizoram side, have been arrested for possession of prohibited goods, he said.
In another instance, police at the Khankawn check gate, about 100 km from Champai, on Wednesday morning recovered and seized 24 grams of heroin hidden in two cases of soap from a local businessman and a 28-year-old Myanmar woman. .

The two peddlers were traveling in a Mexican cab from Zuchauther and had hidden the contraband in packets of puff corn.
Again on Wednesday around 9 pm, the police also seized 24 grams of heroin from a trader at the Khankaon check gate, the officer said.

In another seizure, Champai police recovered 156 grams of heroin from a vehicle in Vengsang area of ​​Champai on Thursday morning, he said.
He said the driver of the vehicle was arrested for possession of prohibited goods, which were concealed in 12 cases of soap.

He said that all the seized drugs were smuggled from Myanmar.

The Mizoram police said they are on round-the-clock vigil to check smuggling activities from neighboring states and countries, which have increased in recent years.
