Aizawl: Lalrinawma (49), who resigned as Deputy Speaker of the Mizoram Assembly on Thursday, will be sworn in as a minister on Tuesday, an official said.

Mizoram Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati will administer the oath of office to Lalrinawma during the swearing-in ceremony to be held at the Raj Bhavan here, the official said.

He said that Lalrinawma is likely to be given the portfolio of K. Beichhua who resigned from the post of Minister of State on December 13.

Before his resignation, Beichhua, who held the posts of Excise and Narcotics, Veterinary, Social Welfare and sericulture, said that he was asked to resign by Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga as he wanted to reshuffle the cabinet and departments.

Political deadlock in the Mara Autonomous District Council (MADC) in Seha in south Mizoram, from which Beichhua was elected in the last assembly elections, is believed to be the main reason for his resignation.

On 25 November, the Mizo National Front (MNF)-Congress coalition government in MADC was thrown out of power when three MNF district council members supported the BJP, with 25 There are 12 members in the membership council.

The Governor of Mizoram is yet to approve the new government in MADC.

Beichhua’s resignation was accepted by the Governor on December 13 and his portfolio was assigned to the Chief Minister till further orders.
