Aizawl: Mizoram CM and Mizo National Front (MNF) President Zoramthanga on Monday said his party will come to power in the Langley Municipal Council (LMC) elections, scheduled to be held on March 29.
Addressing a rally in south Mizoram’s Lunglei town on Monday, CM Zoramthanga expressed hope that his party would retain power in the next assembly polls as well.
The Chief Minister said that his government is making massive efforts for the development of the southern district and projects worth Rs 330 crore are in the pipeline.
Taking aim at the opposition Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), Zoramthanga said the party had fallen before the people despite its claim that it would introduce a new system.
“He (ZPM) said he has a new system. However, he has changed it at least ten times now. It seems people are not worried about his new system because the party has won every election. I fail to win even 10 seats,” said the three-time chief minister.
Zormathanga also said that the Congress is no longer a strong opponent to fight against.
He said that the wave of the party in both the state and the center has already ended.
Polling for the 11-member Luunglei Municipal Council will be held on March 29 between 7 am and 4 pm.
The last date for filing nomination papers is March 10, while the last date for withdrawing candidates is March 14. Counting of votes will take place on April 3.
