Mizoram: Car falls into gorge in Serchhip, 4 killed
In a tragic incident, at least four people, including a village council leader, were killed when the car they were traveling in fell into a ditch near Chhingchhip village in Central Mizoram’s Serchhip district. , Which is about 66 km from the state capital Aizawl. The police officer said on Sunday.
The four suspects were on their way to Aizawl from Langton village in Khawzawl district at around 7pm on Friday, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Stephen Lalrinawma .
He said the whereabouts of the victims could not be ascertained as his relatives last spoke to one of the victims on the phone at 11pm on Friday night.
He said the incident is believed to have taken place around 3-3:30 a.m. on Saturday morning as CCTV footage showed him crossing the city at around 1:17 a.m. Saturday morning. He said that the place where the accident took place is about an hour and a half drive away.
All four died on the spot and their bodies were exhumed about 180 meters below the roadside with the help of local volunteers around 11 a.m. Saturday, he said.
The victims were identified as R. Laldingliana (33), vice-president of Langton Village Council, Tlangsiama (42) (also from Lungtan), and Lalsangliana (47) and PC Lalremruata (47).
Stephen said the cause of the crash was not yet known.
