Aizawl: Mizoram: BJP MLA says he has been falsely implicated in corruption case. Mizoram’s lone BJP legislator Buddhadhan Chakma, who was recently sentenced to a year in jail along with 12 other Chakma leaders in a corruption case, said that to spoil his political career They have been falsely implicated.

He claimed that he had returned all the money he was charged with for a year before the complaint was lodged and a criminal case was registered against him.
Earlier on Monday, a Special Judge (Prevention of Corruption Act) court in Aizawl convicted BD Chakma and five sitting Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) members of the ruling Mizo National Front (MNF). was sentenced to one year imprisonment and a fine. including the Council’s Chief Executive Member (CEM) Buddha Leela Chakma for misappropriating funds of Rs.137.10 lakhs which were specifically allocated for development work at CADC during 2013-2018.
He paid the amount as an advance. Among those convicted are seven former members of the district council.

However, the special court granted them interim bail for 90 days after the convicts pleaded that they would challenge the decision in the high court.
“Despite clearing our salary advance, the case IO has charge-sheeted us. Isn’t it like double punishment in the same case? It’s a conspiracy against us to defame our political images, especially mine and Buddha Leela Chakma. There is nothing but,” Chakma told a news conference in Aizawl, adding that the allegations were completely baseless.
Chakma successfully contested the CADC elections for the second consecutive term on a Congress ticket in April 2013 and became the council’s CEM until November that year, when he was elected to the state assembly. And the former was made Minister of State in Lal. The Congress government was led by Thanhawla.

He resigned as a minister and quit the Congress in August 2017. Soon after his resignation the same year, he joined the BJP and successfully contested the state assembly elections for the second consecutive term in 2018 to become the first BJP legislator in the state.
