AIZAWL: More than 1,800 names of Bro voters have been deleted from the electoral roll of Mizoram, with the process of resettlement of the Bro people of Mizoram displaced in Tripura, an election official said on Saturday.
Mizoram’s Joint Chief Electoral Officer David Liansenglora Pichau said that a total of 1,829 names of Bro voters have been removed from the state’s voter list after being entered in the Tripura voter list.
He said that 1,736 voters were deleted on the respective deletion requests received from Tripura, while the remaining 93 were deleted on the basis of scanned forms.
Bruce originally belonged to the nine assembly constituencies of Mammit district of Tripura, Kolasib district of Assam and Longli district of Bangladesh border.
Out of 1,829 borough voters, 1,614 were from Mammit district, 187 from Kolasib and 28 from Langley.
According to the Election Department of Mizoram, about 11,759 Bro voters, including 5,751 women voters, who have been allowed to resettle in Tripura, are included in the voter list of Mizoram.
Sources in Tripura said that the process of resettlement of about 35,000 thousand Bro voters is going on.
Thousands of Buro voters had fled to Tripura in 1997 following the killing of a Mizo forest officer by an ex-Bro militant.
