Mizo community celebrated Palm Sunday with religious eagerness

Aizawl: Palm Sunday was observed with religious fervor by various churches in all parts of Mizoram on Sunday to commemorate Jesus Christ’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem before his crucifixion and resurrection.
The celebration began with Palm Sunday processions by early morning children, who took to the streets in the state capital Aizawl, and other towns and villages carrying palm leaves, and celebrated Jesus’ triumphal entry into the holy city. Hosanna’ chanted.
Some adults were also included in the processions taken out by the respective churches.

Palm Sunday procession and early morning chanting of “Hosanna” by children is an integral part of Hosanna celebrations in Mizoram.
Special church services and prayer services were organized by local churches of various Christian denominations across the state, besides singing Christian hymns.
Various churches preached sermons related to Palm Sunday, locally known as “Tumkau Ni”.
As part of the celebration, special teas were served by the churches.
According to biblical teaching, Jesus Christ rode into Jerusalem on a donkey on the last Sunday before his crucifixion.
Crowds spread their wreaths and palm leaves on the street and chanted “Hail to the Son of David” and “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord” to honor him as their long-awaited Messiah and King.
