Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday launched Mission Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE), a global people’s movement led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the state.
Sarma said it promotes an environmentally conscious lifestyle by focusing on consumption rather than waste.
He said that under this initiative, week-long activities will be conducted in all districts, focusing on seven identified categories, including energy and water conservation, reduction of plastic and e-waste and health. A healthy lifestyle is included.
Sarma said that in known and unknown ways “we act against nature that creates problems for humanity, causing challenges for humans, plants and the animal kingdom”.
“Earlier, we could predict climate changes but now things have changed mostly due to the loss of green cover, wetlands and other natural bodies, and many research papers have pointed out that Northeast India has a climate change. The impact of the change will be severe,” the chief minister said. said.
“During the last two years, the state government has cleared more than six thousand acres of land from encroachment, and this is a small step towards creating a healthy environment,” he added.
