Guwahati: In a recent incident along the Assam-Nagaland border, a few armed Naga offenders threatened a small tea vendor with death if he did not leave the border area. The incident took place near Mariani, causing panic among the people living in the area.
The tea worker, identified as Asim Gogoi, was asked to leave the area immediately, and the armed Naga revolutionists warned him that they would shoot him with their weapons if he did not leave. The situation along the border remains tense and volatile as such incidents have occurred in the past.
Earlier on April 22, a day after Assam and Arunachal Pradesh signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to resolve the long-standing border dispute, unidentified miscreants opened fire along the border. Panic spread in Rampur area.
In this incident, a patrol team of the Assam Forest Department was allegedly assaulted, abused and misbehaved by offenders in the border area. The forest guards were chased away by the miscreants with weapons.
