Guwahati: Assam police have launched an extensive search operation to track down four suspects who were involved in the gang rape of a 15-year-old minor girl in the Cachar district.
The incident that occurred on February 15 last came to light after a police complaint was lodged a couple of days after the incident.
Police sources revealed that the girl was allegedly gang raped inside a moving car.
According to an Assam Police official, one of the perpetrators, a 30-year-old married man, was an acquaintance of the victim.
“The accused bought a new car. He played an instrumental role in calling the victim to meet him on the day of the incident at a public place. She was kidnapped from the site and later gang raped by the perpetrators,” the police official revealed.
All four suspects have been successfully identified, and a special search team of the police swung into action to trace them.
A case against the accused persons was lodged with Kachudaram police station in Assam under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 376D (Gang Rape) and 363 (Kidnapping), as well as the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), sources further confirmed.
