Imphal: As the situation in Manipur continues to be tense, another controversy erupted on social media when JNU professor Oinam Bhagat said the Meiteis have become “unmindful” like the Kukis and Nagas.
A video was shared on Twitter by journalist Makepeace Sitlhou, in which his statements were clearly heard. Many people commented critically on the statements.
Professor Oinam Bhagat, a Meitei, had earlier described the violence in Manipur as pre-planned.
However, a video of a media debate is now doing rounds on the internet in which Bhagat made several statements regarding the ongoing violence in Manipur.
In the statement, he was heard saying that beheading in Manipur was unfortunate.
In a lighter vein, he added in the next line, the Northeast is known for its head-hunting communities and added that Kuki, Naga and Meitei were also head-hunters.
They claimed that after adopting Vaishnav, the Meiteis stopped hunting.
“But somehow, the Kukis have triggered our old habit so now we are all headhunting”, he added.
Adding to this, he claimed that it should now be accepted that Meiteis have now become tribals.
He said, “We are as merciless and unfeeling as the Kukis and the Nagas.”
These statements of the professor are now being severely criticized by many people on social media.
