
Meitei-Kuki conflict, UNC calls for immediate resolution
Imphal: The United Naga Council (UNC), the apex body of Nagas in the region, has called on the state government and the two warring communities – the Meiteis and the Kukis – to work together in the larger interests of all communities living in Manipur. I resolve our differences immediately.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, UNC Information and Publicity Secretary James Howe said the Center and state governments should take necessary steps to ensure uninterrupted supply of essential commodities across the state.
He also called for an end to unnecessary checking/searching/detention/extortion of essential goods and various restrictions imposed on Naga people as well as illegal tax collection/extortion from travelers and suppliers of essential goods on national highways. demanded. Inter-District Highways
The UNC also called for the immediate lifting of the ongoing economic blockade by the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) in the interest of all communities living in the state.
The CoTU has been staging an indefinite economic blockade on the national highways passing through Manipur since August 18, demanding availability of essential commodities in the Kuki-Zo populated areas of the state.
The UNC further said that the state and central governments must also address the grievances of the Kuki-Zo community, including the non-availability of life-saving drugs and essential commodities, as demanded by the CoTU.
