TURA: The GHADC has entered into an agreement with OneLife Agricole Pvt Ltd to activate forests with teak and various other medicinal plants and endangered native herbs in the Garo Hills, allegedly by handing over its lands to the company for agricultural use. Is.
An agreement in this regard was reportedly signed between the company officials and Chief Executive Member Albinush R. Marak on December 21 last year in the presence of other GHADC officials including Secretary S. Ricardo R. Marak.
As per the agreement, the council proposed to make 15,000 hectares of council-owned land available for the project to bring foreign investment to this part of Meghalaya with projects designed to benefit local people. Similarly, OneLife agreed to have international experts take up the project in Garo Hills, Meghalaya. They will include scientists and agronomists from Israel, the US and South Africa along with a senior team from India.
“The company is stepping up with investments in agriculture in the North-East region and foresees that agriculture should become the backbone of biodiversity and eco-friendly agricultural development in the near future, resulting in Conservation efforts will be strengthened through the Council Forest Department in.
