Meghalaya: Waste to energy plant inaugurated at Tura.
Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Konrad K. Sangma along with South Korean Ambassador to India Chang Jie-buk on Tuesday inaugurated a pilot project for a waste-to-fuel plant or waste-to-fuel plant at Tora district headquarters.
A Korean company is setting up the first project of its kind in India. The plant, located on a landfill site in Rongkhong Sungitel, is a collaboration between the Government of Meghalaya, the Tora Municipal Board and Chamhana GW of South Korea.
The current project in Tora is seen as a demonstration of a working model for the daily municipal waste management in and around Tora City.
Inaugurating the project, the Chief Minister said that the whole concept of converting waste into energy would fully explain the vision of the people for disposal of waste and rubbish.
“When I visited this site (Landfill) I really wanted to do something and I didn’t know what and how. But I knew we had to throw garbage here to make this place green again. This whole process needs to change, and more importantly, find a way; technology that enables us to ensure that the waste we generate in the future is greatly increased. Coins – of things, “said the Chief Minister.
Talking in detail about the project, the Chief Minister said that the project was conceived in 2019 but it had to be stopped due to epidemic diseases.
The waste to energy plant will operate by converting all waste, except recyclable metals, glass wood and e-waste, construction waste, etc., into fuel brackets. Fuel brackets can then be used as an alternative to coal and charcoal.
On a hopeful note, the chief minister said that if the pilot project was successful, the government would expand and install waste conversion plants in other parts of the state.
Describing the project as a victory for all, South Korean Ambassador to India Chang Jae-buk, who is on his first visit to Meghalaya, said that the pilot project was the beginning of a very meaningful and mutually beneficial cooperation between Korea and India. And between India. It could be in the field of technology that has the potential to greatly enhance people’s quality of life.
