Shillong: The Tourism Promoters Trekking Society, Wahkhan, has decided to reopen the bamboo trekking route leading to Morengkhang track tourist spots from September 10.
Bamboo bridges have been damaged due to heavy rains in the state. The Trekkers Society had to close the bridge for two months for repairs and maintenance.
Wahkhen is a village located in Pynursla tehsil of East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. It is about 48 km from Shillong city.
This route is known for the bamboo trail built along the cliffs. The trail leads to ‘U Mawryngkhang’ rock, the single largest standing rock in the state and considered the “King of Rocks” located in Wahkhon village. The trek takes around 2-3 hours depending on a person’s fitness and the number of intervals they do.
To preserve the natural beauty of the route, the Trekkers Society has taken strict measures to prevent pollution.
“Do not throw plastic, bottles and non-degradable materials indiscriminately on the way to Morengkhang track . All tourists should maintain themselves with discipline and respect nature by cooperating with the society so that in the coming years This place can be made more attractive.” Society officials said in a notification.
