
Meghalaya: State’s first govt engineering college initiated by CM
Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Monday inaugurated the Shillong Government College of Engineering, the first government engineering college in the state.
The project was initiated by the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) and was constructed at a cost of Rs 26 crore and was constructed in the Mawlai area.
The Chief Minister said in his address that the focus of his government has been the youth for the last five years and keeping this in mind, the government has launched many programmes.
He said the government has conducted a survey and interacted with more than 90,000 youth and prepared a road map to channelize their potential. He further informed that various programs related to business, sports and music launched by the government are derived from such studies.
“Youth is an asset and strength we have, if we harness their energy properly, we can ensure that Meghalaya can become the best state in the country, because the youth will drive the future of our state. will play an important role.” The Chief Minister added.
“If we plan to improve learning at 20 years old, we will not achieve the best, so the government has launched programs that systematically promote proper child nutrition and early childhood education,” he said. ensure education.”
The Chief Minister said that the government will continue to focus on the development of human capital as an investment for the development of Meghalaya.
The Engineering College will cater to degree courses in three technical branches – Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mining Engineering with an intake capacity of 30 for each branch.
The government has created 55 posts including 36 teaching and 19 non-teaching posts.
