Meghalaya received the award for running 448 health and wellness centres.

Shillong: Meghalaya received a national-level award for achieving the target of running 448 Health and Wellness Centers (AB-HWCs) under the Ayushman Bharat Comprehensive Primary Health Coverage Programme.

The award was received by Ramkumar S, Mission Director, National Health Mission (NHM), Meghalaya and Dr. Rilynti Lyngdoh, Joint Director Health Services (MCH&FW) cum State Nodal Officer CPHC.

Meghalaya was given the award during the two-day convention “Universal Health Coverage Day (UHC) 2022” held in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

The event was organized by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
“We are honored to be recognized for the state’s dedication to achieving more than 425 active health and wellness centers. We are grateful for the hard work of the district and state teams in achieving our goals within the timeline. Succeeded, especially the Mid Level Health Providers (MLHP) at the field level, who have given their all to ensure access to these HWCs. Quality healthcare to every citizen,” Dr. Relinthi Langdoh.
Under the programme, 18 urban health centres, 114 public health centers and 318 sub-centres in Meghalaya have been upgraded to AB-HWCs.

These HWCs are envisioned to provide a wide range of services that go beyond maternal and child health care services to include non-communicable disease care, stroke and rehabilitation care, oral, eye and ENT. Includes primary care, mental health and emergency care. and trauma, including free essential medicines and diagnostic services.

Health and wellness centers in Meghalaya have provided more than 60,000 tele-consultation services within a year, the second highest number among northeastern states.
