Meghalaya polls: Chireng Peter have support of cheif advisor BCC

Resubelpara: Chireng Peter R. Marak, one of the Congress party ticket aspirants from Kharkutta Constituency, has received support for his candidature from various sections of Kharkutta BCC and has agreed to join him by supporting his candidature. .

Yesterday, a press release by BCC General Secretary, Saintwinarth Marak, claimed that Chireng is not a candidate with them, not even aware of joining the party. He added that the Congress had only one candidate, after Omillo K Sangma, the other candidate, Josephine Marak, left to join the BJP.
The release claimed that Chireng’s joining the party was just a ploy to get the Congress out of the race as he is the brother-in-law of Tura NPP MP, Agatha Sangma.

However, that evening, Chireng’s candidature received a shot when BCC Chief Advisor, Johnee Momin and several BCC executive members from Kharkutta came out in support.
Criticizing the BCC GS statement, Momin questioned the logic of Chireng’s statement of being NPP only because he was related to a leader.

“Applying this logic, Varun Gandhi becomes a member of the Congress because he is related by blood to Congress youth president Rahul Gandhi but he is with the BJP to bring down the BJP,” Momin said. “Momin said.
“I believe that when God closes one door, He opens another and that is what God has done here for Chireng. Workers from all walks of life across party lines are here to support, strengthen and empower them. So here they are. The Congress high command has faith in them as do the Congress workers. Not only the Congress workers but also those from the BJP, NPP and TMC who were unhappy with their parent party. have joined them in numbers.
The Congress adviser felt that the BCC GS statement was personal and asked them to desist from it and also requested them to help Chireng win.
“We have no problem with ticket aspirants in the party. Some leaders and party workers do not work for the party but for their personal gain. The party does not need such people and does not tolerate such people. ” said the BCC Youth Advisor.

He further felt that this time the fight would be between the AITC (Cherak Momin) and the INC (representing Agra Chireng) and with Kharkutta being a Congress stronghold, he was confident of victory.
His statement of support was echoed by other executive members including Killer Marak, Anitha Marak, Exbith Sangma, Niten Momin among others.
