Shillong: Minor students have been banned from bringing two-wheelers or cars to schools in Meghalaya’s eastern Khasi Hills district.
The District School Education Officer of Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district has issued a letter to the principals and headmasters of all schools in the district on the matter.
The School Education Officer of East Khasi Hills has referred to the “Directions of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety (SCCORS) on District Road Safety Committee and its follow-up”.
The letter reads, “… you are directed to ensure that minor students are not allowed to ride two wheelers or vehicles while coming to school.
This letter has been issued by East Khasi Hills District School Education Officer, Meghalaya to all Principals, Headmasters and Headmistresses of all Higher Secondary and Senior Secondary Schools in the district.
Notably, students of many schools have been seen going to school on two-wheelers or cars in recent times.
The minimum age for a driving license in India for a two-wheeler with a capacity of less than 50cc is 16 years.
Applicant must be at least 16 years of age and if under 18 years of age must have consent of parent or guardian.
Otherwise, the applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
