GUWAHATI: Meghalaya Governor Brig (retired) BD Mishra has stressed on giving top priority to environmental protection efforts.
Governor Brigadier (retd) BD Mishra was addressing the 70th plenary of North Eastern Council (NEC), chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Guwahati, Assam.
The Governor also highlighted the challenges of Meghalaya and said that climate change and humanitarian conditions have put the state under severe pressure.
Meghalaya Governor Brigadier (retd) BD Mishra said that about 80 percent of the state’s population depends on natural resources to sustain various forms of agriculture-based livelihood.
Describing Meghalaya as a “land of immense opportunities and resource challenges”, Mishra said, “Meghalaya, which is celebrating its 50th year as a state, will continue to improve the quality of life of its citizens and make Meghalaya a top 10 states are committed to converting the country by the end of the decade.
The governor added that the North-Eastern region has undergone major changes in the last few years.
