TURA: The Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE) has urged both the state government and the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) to release pending salaries of employees before Christmas.
It is very disturbing to think about the financial and psychological state of GHADC employees just before Christmas. As far as we know, the employees have been without salaries for about 29 months. The salaries of GHADC have been irregular since the month of August 2020.

While the salaries were released from time to time, they have now stopped completely.

It seems that the state led by Konrad K Sangma and the GHADC under the leadership of the new CEM have lost sympathy for these employees. Employees working under almost all other departments are getting their wages regularly, even getting Christmas advance. So why this step-motherly treatment of those living in GHADC,” said ADE president Dalseng Bira Ch Momin.

Without mentioning the financial assistance provided by the state and central governments, the association said that only the income generated by GHADC was sufficient to pay the salaries of the employees, and questioned whether it was somehow misused. happening He appealed to the CEM and his colleagues to somehow arrange the salary amount so that they too can enjoy the festive season with their families.

The association also raised the issue of the border agreement signed between Meghalaya and Assam and urged the government to fulfill the promise made to protest groups during its meeting.

“On August 23, we (FKJGP CEC, GH Zone, KSU etc.) held a meeting with the officials and they promised us that 12 villages which actually fall in Meghalaya and there is no border dispute, will be placed under Meghalaya.

We would like to mention 3 villages in particular namely Malangkona Jaipur, Malangkona Hohwapara and Malangkona Salbari, where generation after generation people are living as Meghalaya. Govt should ensure that That these villages remain with Meghalaya and not be given to Assam,” the association said.
