Meghalaya: Floods, and landslides wreak havoc in South Garo Hills. Floods and landslides wreaked havoc in Meghalaya’s southern Garo Hills district, affecting about 40,000 people, blocking roads, sweeping away bridges, cutting off mobile communications, and cutting off power supplies.
The district bordering Bangladesh has been cut off for the past four days and National Highway 62 has been affected in several places, he said.
The district has witnessed several landslides in the last few days amid continuous rains.
Mobile connectivity in the district has also been affected and disconnected. Power supply has been disrupted in other areas including Bagmara Town, Crocodile, Rongsa Ave, Seju, Rongara, Geswapara, and Chowk Pot.
At least eight people have been killed so far in landslides in Bolsalgari, Seju, and Rongsa Awe. Authorities say two people are still missing from Rongsa Awe.
